Adjuster

What is the primary role of an insurance adjuster in the auto damage appraisal process?

Insurance adjusters work for the insurance company that pays the claim. They evaluate insurance claims and decide whether the insurer should pay the claim, and if so, how much.

In the auto damage appraisal process, an insurance adjuster’s responsibilities include:

  • Determining the disposition of the auto and arranging an inspection of the vehicle by the auto appraiser
  • Securing and explaining the repair estimate with the customer
  • Negotiating equitable settlements
  • Preparing various insurance forms and/or documenting the claim
  • Reviewing estimates through symbility estimating software program
  • Completing repair estimate along with photographs using MSB estimating software

Investigators may also:

  • Interview the claimant and witnesses
  • Inspect the property
  • Do additional research, such as look at police reports
Appraisers are assigned to determine the value of your vehicle and the estimated cost of repairs.
